About Erin Peradotto

Hon. Erin M. Peradotto, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in 1981 and her Juris Doctor degree in 1984.

Before her election to the State Supreme Court in 2003, Justice Peradotto practiced as a trial attorney in the Supreme Courts throughout the Eighth Judicial District, and in other parts of the State, and handled appeals before the Appellate Division and New York State Court of Appeals. She also served as the Assistant Attorney General in Charge of the Buffalo Regional Office of the New York State Attorney General’s office from 1997-1998. She served as President of the Bar Association of Erie County from 1997- 1998. She was appointed to the Appellate Division, Fourth Department on December 22, 2006. On three occasions, Justice Peradotto was on the list of candidates nominated by the New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination for the position of Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals.

Justice Peradotto is a member of the Ethics Commission for the Unified Court System and the SUNY at Buffalo Law School Dean’s Advisory Council. She also taught New York Civil Practice and Trial Technique as a member of the adjunct faculty at the SUNY at Buffalo Law School. She is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education programs.

Justice Peradotto has received numerous awards for her leadership, commitment and service to the legal profession and community, including the Distinguished Alumna award from the SUNY at Buffalo Law School, the M. Dolores Denman Lady Justice Award from the Western New York Chapter of the New York State Women’s Bar Association, and the Lamplighter Award from the 8th Judicial District Gender & Racial Fairness Committee.
